Chip Kidd- Master of Graphic Design- Matthew Jablon

Chip Kidd is an American graphic designer, author and editor. He is best recognized as a graphic designer for book covers. Born in Pennsylvania, in 1964, Chip Kidd began working for a publishing company in 1986. He would also freelance for various companies and produced more than 70 book jackets a year. Kidd has worked with many great authors, such as Dean Koontz, Frank Miller, Mark Beyer and Bret Easton Ellis. The USA Today called him "the closest thing to a rock star" in the graphic design industry. While he is considered one of the best in the world, Kidd is humble and often says that he has made his career on the back of great authors. Kidd not only creates cover art for novels, but also for comic books and graphic novels. After researching Kidd, I noticed that I am more familiar with his work than I realized. He did the cover art for the film adaptation of the Jurassic Park novel, which was one of the first novels I owned as a child. He also did the cover art for comics such as Batman, and the graphic novel the Watchmen. -Matthew

  1. Great choice Matthew. It's true that the artists behind some of our most iconic books, movie posters, logs, etc. are unknown by the general public. I appreciate that you acknowledged the importance of Jurassic Park to you.
