Louise Fili
I have chosen to write about the Italian American graphic
design artist Louise Fili. Louise Fili was born in New Jersey, and she was
interested in graphic design very early in her life. Even as a child she carved
letterforms into book covers, and she was able to teach herself calligraphy
using a speedball guide. She then went on to attend Skidmore College in New
York to study art. She received a Bachelor of Science in Studio Art. After
college she did freelance designing on special book project, and at the age of
25 she became senior designer for Herb Lubalin. This was when she learned that
type was a very expressive tool, which is why she began using it more. In 1989
she opened her own studio, which specialized in the design of restaurant
identity, food related logos, and packaging.
