Born 1962, in Baghdad, Nadim Kufi is an Iraqi-Dutch multi disciplinary visual artist. He studied at the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts, where he graduated in 1985. Kufi served in the Iraqi military during the Iran-Iraq War. He was deeply affected by the atrocities he witnessed during the war. In 1990 he left Iraq and eventually settled in the Netherlands in 1994. Kufi's art explores themes of war, political conflict, exile, loss and history. His work typically contains some autobiographical elements. As previously mentioned, Kufi is a multi-disciplinary artist, who does work as a painter, graphic designer and print maker. Kufi often features photos from his childhood, taken by his father, in his art.
