Susan
Kare is a graphic designer who was born February 5th, 1954. In her early life
she was introduced to typography and graphic design by the museum owner who she
worked for. She then went on to graduate with a Bachelors in art from Mount
Holyoke College. She even went on to get a PHD at New York University. After
college she moved to San Fransisco and received a job at a museum. She would
then go on to get a call from a high school friend about working for Apple, and
she then became a member of the original macintosh team which is an amazing
feat as she is the designer of many typefaces, icons, and original marketing
materials for the original macintosh operating system. Kare was an early
pioneer for pixel art. She went on to make the Chicago typeface which is the
most prominent user interface typeface in the classic Mac Os systems from
system 1.

Super... and it was Apple's early commitment to putting the tools of the graphic designer into everyone's hands that endeared them to the art world early on. She played a big role in making that happen.
