Louise Fili

Louise Fili is a graphic designer and writer who graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. Here, she found a love for typography while working in the type shop. I felt it was quite fitting to research this artist because we are currently learning about typography. "Fili specializes in logo, package, restaurant, type, book, and book jacket design" (Hewitt,1). She eventually founded Louise Fili Ltd where she works as principal. She has created more than 2,000 book covers and even co-authored design books! Today, her work can be found "in the permanent collection of the Library of Congress, the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, and the Musee des Arts Decoratifs. Her work has also been featured in Graphis, Step Inside Design, and print magazines" (Hewitt,4).

  1. Great... Type as illustration is the key here. Her retro look back to previous centuries I see as a reaction to the dominance of the Swiss style of austere design.
