David Carson
David Carson was an American Graphic designer, Art director and surfer. Best known for his innovative magazine designs and use of experimental typography. He was the director of Ray Gun Magazine, for over 3 years. Ray Gun was an alternative music and lifestyle magazine that debuted in 1992. Ray Gun helped make Carson well known and attracted new admirers to his work. In 1995, Carson left Ray Gun to found his own studio, David Carson Design, in New York City. Here he attracted many major companies and began doing work for Nike, Ray Ban, Pepsi Cola, Budweiser, Microsoft and so many more. Carson has been featured in over 300 interviews/articles worldwide both digital and print. He has earned many many awards through out his career. To this day he still does some graphic design but mostly holds lectures and workshops on Graphic design. He is retired in a way, focusing on his hobby of surfing. He was inducted into the East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame in 2018.
He was a breath of fresh air who challenged the rigid design rules developed in Europe and known as the International Style or Swiss Style.
